For wellness vacations, what else could be a better retreat than yoga spa vacation?
I heard my aunt talking about yoga vacation, but like many other people, my concept of vacation was also to ‘go and relax’. I always thought that stretching my legs and arms and bending my back backwards is no way to go on vacation, but the idea did sound intriguing so I gave it a try.
How Yoga Spas are Different?
Yoga spas and retreats are different from simple yoga workshops in a variety of ways. I have learned from my experience that yoga spa is a combination of yoga massages, yoga environment, yoga food and yoga workouts. As you must have guessed by now, it is a complete yoga routine.
I had different options to choose from including coastal yoga retreat, resort yoga vacation, mountain yoga, in-house yoga, poolside yoga, yoga adventure, and island yoga. These all differ in terms of location and environment only but choosing one was definitely difficult as all of them are very appealing. Yoga adventure is quite different from others as the yogis practice very difficult poses at tough surfaces, like the deck of a ship while at sea. I am only a beginner, so I went with the seemingly easier option: resort yoga vacation. So here we were, packed our yoga gears like good yoga mats, yoga pants and other accessories on a flight.
We, the team of five yogis, used to start our day early in the morning around 5:00 AM with breathing exercises in the resort’s lobby. Our yoga was a combination of detox drinks, yoga massages and light yoga exercises with no restrictions. Do as much or as less as you want!
With fresh breezes forming whirlpools around us, we used to work on accumulated toxins in our bodies with beetroot and orange juice. After breakfast, Susan used to lead our 6 yoga sessions of 15 minutes each, with a five-minute break after every session. Next, the relaxing shoulder, neck and leg massage was my favorite.
After a short nap in the noon, we started our evenings with a specialty detox drink. Let me explain specialty here. Every day had a detox fruit theme. Apart from the morning detox drink, we used to eat and drink only the themed detox fruit throughout the day. Evening drink was followed with five to seven yoga sessions, 15 minutes each. We used to end the day with detox dinner and five-minute yoga massage.

You may only relax in a ‘go and relax’ vacation but you will completely transform after a yoga spa vacation. If you are worried about the relaxation factor, then take my word for it, you will definitely get a lifetime of relaxation after a yoga spa vacation.
