Ministers and Directors

Fairview department Directors spend countless hours in behind the scene tasks in fulfilling their calling.  Most of the time this goes unnoticed. What you will see is the love for their work, the devotion to detail. What drives people to perform like this? We believe its the love of their Lord and Savior.

Cathy Howell, Children's and Family Minister

I always tell everyone that I have the very best job in the “whole wide world” because I get to share God’s great love with children and families.

My husband, Herb, and I have been married 29 years. We have one son, William, and he is married to Jennilyn.  They live in Washington, DC. I graduated from Clayton State University with a degree in Early Childhood Education and I have continued my studies in psychology and counseling at North Greenville University in Tigerville, South Carolina. Herb and I have had the opportunity to live in 7 cities and moved 14 times! The good news about moving that many times is we have made many new friends; the bad news is we have had to leave our old friends. We understand the difficulties of moving and the complexities of finding new church homes, new homes, new schools, and just new everything.  We also understand the love of hometown, because we are back in the Upstate!  Greer is Herb’s hometown, William attended Greer High, and Jennilyn is from Greenville!  Moving has given me the opportunity to serve churches in Tennessee, Georgia, and South Carolina.

I have been a VBS state consultant In Tennessee and South Carolina; and a trained chaplain for South Carolina Disaster Relief. I have volunteered with Operation Christmas Child, The Ronald McDonald House of the Carolinas, and The Greenville Children’s Hospital Child Life program. I know that God called me to make a difference in the lives of children and I want to honor Him in all things.

As the Weekday Preschool Director, I have a great time meeting young families and their children in our community.  Eddie and I have been a part of Fairview for almost 30 years. I grew up in Clemson and have been a Tiger fan all of my life.  Eddie and I met when he was in the Tiger Band and I was in the CU Chorus. I graduated from Clemson as a Math major and then received my Masters in Guidance and Counseling.  After teaching and counseling several years, we were blessed with a daughter, Alicia.  I became a stay-home mom and Alicia attended preschool at Fairview.  Alicia is also a Clemson graduate and is now an architect in Charleston, SC.

Before becoming Weekday Director, I taught 3 and 4 year Kindergarten.  I also serve as Church Weekday Education Consultant for the South Carolina Baptist Convention.
